AS Coursework: Research and Planning Log

MY AS MEDIA STUDIES COURSEWORK: RESEARCH AND PLANNING PROGRESS 


The 50% of our coursework element in media studies at Wymondham High School allows students to express their creativity and uniqueness in the creation of their own media products. Our coursework is to generate, film and edit a film opening lasting around two minutes.



Overview of the coursework plan


AS (Year 12) 50% Coursework
1 – students will create the opening two minutes of an original feature film in any genre;
this will involve coming up with the concept, plot, casting, scripting, storyboards, filming, editing, etc…
(This section is worth 60 marks)

2 - Research and Planning blog;
each student will create and run their own online blog detailing research into existing film openings, genre, narrative, and other areas of the film industry. As well as planning their own film in casting, scripting, storyboards stages.
The blog allows for the uploading of video diaries, clips and images and text.
(This section is worth 20 marks)

3 - Evaluation questions;
  • Ø  In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  • Ø   How does your media product represent particular social groups?
  • Ø   What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
  • Ø   Who would be the audience for your media product?
  • Ø   How did you attract/address your audience?
  • Ø   What have you learnt abought technologies from the process of constructing this product?
  • Ø   Looking backat your preliminary task, what do you think you have learnt in the progression from it to your main product.

To the left are my ideas before looking at the OCR mark scheme of the order of importance of these factors. (The most important at the top with the least important at the bottom, and those in the middle of equal importance.)
